From the first hello to a great conversation
How to find the right podcasts, introduce yourself to hosts and be a brilliant guest without feeling you have to become someone else.
Maybe you've got a story to share, something you're passionate about or a business you'd love more people to know about.
Perhaps you've never approached a podcast before and have no idea where to start.
Or maybe you've already been a guest on a few, but you're struggling to find other podcasts that might be interested in having you on.
How do you find the right podcasts? How do you approach a host without sounding like you're delivering a sales pitch? And how do you prepare for a great conversation when someone says yes?
The thing is, you don't need an extraordinary story, an impressive CV or thousands of social media followers to be a brilliant podcast guest.
What you do need is a bit of a plan, an understanding of what you have to offer and a way of approaching hosts that feels like you.
It's about finding the right podcasts, making genuine connections and having conversations worth listening to.
No copy-and-paste pitches. They're yucky. And hosts can spot them a mile off.
No pretending to be someone you're not.
Just finding your way from that first hello to a great conversation.

1. What have you got to offer?
You don't need to be famous or have an extraordinary story. We'll explore what makes someone an interesting podcast guest and how to recognise the experiences, knowledge and perspectives you could bring to a conversation.
And yes, I'm talking to those of you thinking, “But I haven't got anything interesting to talk about.”
Yes, you have!
2. Finding podcasts and making that first approach
Where do you find podcasts that might be a good fit? How do you contact hosts and introduce yourself? And what makes someone want to reply? We'll look at what works, what doesn't and how to make that first connection in your own words.

3. Getting ready to be a guest
What happens when someone says yes? We'll talk about what to expect, what to ask your host and how to prepare without scripting every word or putting unnecessary pressure on yourself.
4. Having a great conversation
What actually makes someone a brilliant podcast guest? From sharing stories and listening to navigating unexpected questions, we'll explore how to have an engaging conversation while still being you.

Well, yes! Of course you can.
There's plenty of advice out there about how to get yourself onto podcasts. Some of it's really useful. Some of it, well, not so much!
But knowing what to do and actually doing it are two different things.
And sometimes it really helps to hear from someone who's been on both sides of the mic. Someone who can tell you what makes them want to invite a guest onto their podcast, what puts them off and what makes a conversation really work.
That's what we'll be getting into. The practical stuff, the human stuff and all those little things that can make a big difference, but you can't always find on the internet.

Come and join me!
Hello, I'm Liz!
I'm the host of two podcasts, The Untypical Parent and Untypical Bikers, and I've been a guest on quite a few others too.
So I've spent a fair bit of time on both sides of the mic. I've sent pitches, received pitches, had some absolutely brilliant conversations and a few that haven't quite gone to plan!
And one thing I've learnt is that a great podcast episode is a two-way thing.
It takes a brilliant host and a brilliant guest to create that bit of magic that makes a conversation really worth listening to.
We can't control what the other person brings to the conversation, but there are plenty of things we can do from our side to help make it a great one.
And that's what I want to help you with.
